It’s estimated that around one in every 200 people has narcissistic personality disorder - a mental health condition that’s characterized by excessive self-centeredness and a preoccupation with one's own needs. These traits can put a strain on a narcissist's marriage, and so this updated book provides coping mechanisms for spouses who want to be happy while staying married to someone with this disorder.
Written by five female authors who have each been married to a narcissist, this five-book bundle shows readers how they can navigate being married to a narcissist using the authors’ experienced advice. And these are authors of all adult ages and lengths of marriage. Some have been married to their narc for over 20 years, while one person is only in her 20's and very recently married. Some eventually left their narc spouse, others will still in the marriage (at the time the book was written).
Throughout the book, coping mechanisms are offered and explained to deal with their spouse’s challenging behavior and are shown how to build back their own self-worth and self-confidence, which can take a pummeling by the narcissist if he's left to his self-centered devices.
In particular, readers are shown how to overcome gaslighting, emotional abuse, co-dependency, and entitlement.
Explaining the value of this book, a spokesperson says, “The focus of this book is to give experienced advice to readers who have narcissistic spouses or life partners. Rather than advising women on how to leave their narcissistic partner (as most books tend to recommend), this book explains what coping skills you need to stay with your narc and be happy. With the help of five women who have lived experience of a narcissistic partner, you will learn to better cope with narcissistic behavior.”
The one relationship situation that neither the publisher nor the authors can recommend ever staying in, however, is a situation of physical abuse. They say if physical abuse happens in any relationship, do everything to escape that relationship immediately.
